“KALYE” ART EXHIBITION

You may be unhappy with the current political climate that we are living in, or you may not care at all, but regardless of the politics that occupy your mind and populate your Twitter or Instagram feed, I would imagine that you have thoughts about them and if you are LUCKY enough to live in a country that affords you freedom of speech, I believe you should exercise it.

Today in this exhibition, I will be exercising this right that I'm lucky enough to have and use it to spread awareness about what's going on here in North America and what's going on back home in the motherland.

With Fascism spreading worldwide, freedom of speech is day by day becoming a thing of the past. Controlled mass media is becoming the new norm.

This exhibition's mission is to give you at least a sense of empowerment, even if our world has gone completely mad, it is up to us, the People to change these things. We've seen how powerful Fascism can be. Millions of people have died trying to fight this sick and cruel ideology. It is up to our generation to fight against it once more.

I think it's important to understand the importance of art and start something as small as a conversation.

I believe that in our world today, we are now all inter-connected in ways we never thought possible and that this enables us to change public discourse on critical issues. It takes much strength and conviction to create art that can promote transformational social change.

The pieces displayed here today are my attempt to try and understand that art and activism both work in the challenges of the unknown and the unpredictable, never truly able to determine the outcome and forever questioning if there is more to be done.

This exhibition is the culmination of all the works I made during the covid-19 lockdown and the protests. Being inspired by these events made me realize how powerful art can be as a tool to spread awareness on the things that I care about.
