“Ligaya”
96” x 60” Aerosol, Acrylic on wood
Ligaya is a deeply personal portrait I created in honor of my late mother. The piece is titled Ligaya, the Tagalog word for "joy," and it reflects the essence of the love and joy she brought into my life. The blue Baybayin script represents the words Ligaya, Gunita (which means "to remember"), and Busilak (meaning "pure").
Through this artwork, I wanted to pay tribute to her legacy—capturing the joy, the memories, and the purity that I carry with me. It's a celebration of her life and the emotional impact she continues to have on me, woven together with my cultural heritage.
